Preparation complete

 Kathmandu, October 5, NS report -
Preparations for the Second Nation-wide Boxing Championship is over said the organizer Nepal Boxing Association at a press meet on Monday. The five day championship which kicks off on Saturday has a total of 200 players  participating to win the  cash prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 1,000 for the top three players.

 Kathmandu, August 12, NS report -
The fourth Kwik’s Greenland Inter-school Basketball Championship will kick from Thursday. A total of 33 schools will participate in the championship will be played in league cum knock out format informed the organiser Greenland School at a press conference on Wednesday. which The teams from both the categories have been divided into four groups. The championship will run till Aug 21 will be played in league cum knock out format.

Safety training begins

 Kathmandu, August 12, NS report -
Safety training for swimmers began here from  Wednesday. The training which is  jointly organised by Nepal Swimming Association and Swim India, a volunteer association of Americans will conduct trainings at Shuvatara School, Little Angles School, the swimming complex at Satdobato and two more pools in Pokhara. The training is focused on students to make them aware of safety measures while in the swimming pool.

 Kathmandu, August 11, NS report -
Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) issued a press release on Tuesday asking all the concerned parties - the sports ministry, National Sports Council (NSC) and all the related sports associations to start preparation for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG).

 With less than six months for the SAG which, will be held in Bangladesh in January NSC has not been able to come up with a concrete plans for the preparation. In the press release issued on Tuesday NNIA hailed NSC and related associations for sending the players to the Asian Martial Arts Championship without proper training.

 Referring to Nepal’s dismal performance in the first Asian Martial Arts Championship, which was held in Thailand last week, NNIPA said the same results might come in the upcoming SAG if preparation for it is not start soon.

 Kathmandu, August 10, NS report -
After the Prime Minister it was the sports minister as a week after submitting a four point memorandum to the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, the national cricketers group led by Binod Das handed over copies of it to the sports minister Ganesh Nepali and member secretary of National Sports Council (NSC) Bishnu Lamsal today.

 The memorandum consisted of four demands- employment of national cricketers, inclusion of cricket in departmental teams which already have their football, volleyball teams, cricketers should also get the daily allowance that other teams receive while traveling abroad and improvement of infra-structure for the development of cricket.

 Captain of national team Binod Das also briefed the minister on the glories history Nepali cricket has in the age group categories and sited lack of employment as the chief reason the age group success could not be continued in the senior level.

 ”We request you to act on the employment issue because if something is not done about it right away the players who have spent their youth playing cricket will disappear in search of employment,” explaining the groups agenda to the minister Das said, “for this we urge you to see to it that the departmental teams add cricket in their list of football, volleyball teams. This small act from you will unsure our future as cricketers”

 Minister Nepali gave his word that he will take the matter seriously. “I will look at the matter seriously and act on it but let me tell you it will take sometime,” he said.

 Likewise member secretary Lamsal said further act on the matter can only be started after the NSC meeting.

At the program all rounder Basanta Regmi urged to minister to take action soon as some of the players are negotiation with clubs in the middle east to play cricket. “If a decision is not made soon our visas will come and all this hard work will go in vain,” urged Regmi to the sports minister.

After the meeting Das told the journalists that he was optimistic that their plea will be heard. “We haven’t come with impossible demands and the minister was positive too so I am optimistic our plea will be heard,” said Das.

 Kathmandu, August 9, NS report -
Two Nepali boxers are all geared up to participate in the World Boxing Association (AIBA) World Boxing Championship which will run through September 1-12 in Italy, Milan.

 Dinesh Shrestha and Rajan Shilpakar will compete in 57 and 75 kg weight group respectively. AIBA had selected Asian players from 28 countries and coaches from five out of which two players and a coach from Nepal were chosen. Prachanda Sharma is the coach representing Nepal. The players will undergo a 15 day training for the championship in Milan on Monday.

The players were selected on the basis of their performance in the Fifth National Games, where, both the players had bagged gold in their respective weight category.

Shrestha, who was also chosen the best player of the tournament is at the top of the ranking list while Shilpakar is third. Shilpakar got the opportunity to participate in the world championship as second seeded Sudesh Manandhar is injured.

ANFA President Ganesh ThapaKathmandu, July 31, NS report -
Ganesh Thapa, who has been the president of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) for the last fourteen years announced his nomination for the same post for the upcoming ANFA elections. In a press conference organized on Friday, Thapa said that after solving the ANFA debate which has ruined football in the country for the last two years, he believed that he had the potential to sever ANFA and upgrade the position of football.

 ”I declare myself as the candidate for the upcoming elections,” speaking at the program Thapa said, “I have served football as a player and then as an official for a long time and believe I can contribute for this game I am passionate about.”

 Out of the 72 votes 68 of the votes including various clubs and district associations expressed their approval for Thapa. The remaining four are the three departmental teams (Nepal Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force ) and Bouddha Club.

 President of Annapurna Club Bijay Manandhar proposed Thapa to run for the post while presidents from various district associations expressed their approval at the program. Geeta Rana is the other candidate for the same post.

Nepal win series

Kathmandu, July 31, NS report -
The friendly chess championship between Nepal and Lions Kamrupa Acadamy, Assam finsihed on a good note for Nepal.  Despite earning  only 2.5 points on the final day of the friendly chess championship in Kathmandu on Friday.

Nepal grabbed 47 points of the total of 64 points in the championship while Assam had to satisfy with 17 points. Mohit Jain, Prabhav Kumar Agarwal, Shubham Jain, Siddhanta Khemka and Abhinav Patwari were on the winners list for Assam.

Jain defeated Aryan Shrestha in the 17th move while Agrawal and Khemba won the round against Duwal and Thapa in the 29th and 80th move.

Kathmandu, July 28, NS report -
Ang Babu Lama won two bronze medals in Tai Chi Chuan event at the World Game 2009 which was held from July 14-26 in Taipei. According to the press release issued by Nepal Tai Chi Chuan Federation on Wednesday, Lama bagged the medal in Tai Chi 24 foam and Tai Chi 42 talwar category where Taipei and America clinched gold and sliver in 24 foam while Taipei took both the gold and sliver in 42 talwar. A total of 24 countries had participated in the tournament.

Players receive farewell

Kathmandu, July 28, NS report -
A seven member badminton team which will head for Colombo on Wednesday to participate in the U-16 Asian Youth Badminton Championship received farewell from president of Nepal Badminton Association, Prakesh Bahadur Shahi on Tuesday.

Bilal Waris, Mohammad Irfan Ansari, Anup Gurung and Dipesh Dhami will compete in singles, doubles and team events. Players from 30 nations will participate in the championship will run through August 3-9 in Colombo.
